AdLib was an idea that came to Chris Clark and Faith White at the same time. As result they thought that it must be what God wanted them to do. The idea is to provide an opportunity for young people to worship God in ways appropriate to them. The strap line “Whatever we do, we do it for God” is the only rule. It is definitely not a Church youth club, it is a two hour slot with God involving, art, food, drama, visuals, live and recorded worship and of course prayer. We meet every other Friday at 8pm until 10pm. Each time there is a sort of theme i.e. an “Awesome God” or a “Surprising God” a “Loving God” a “Just God” etc. Prayer plays a large part with the opportunity to use the prayer room at anytime to pray, or to be prayed with.
A typical session would involve the band playing a worship song thy have learned followed by a couple of recorded ones that we all sing along to. A short talk introducing the theme for that night comes next followed by activities i.e. art, drama, guitar workshop, sculpture, prayer and of course food preparation! At about 9:15 we all eat together (food is often themed). The celebrating God session had the best food, the surprising God session had the weirdest (Blue chocolate fondue and fruit!) We restart at 9:30 for a closer look at our subject with usually the opportunity to respond in some way. The evening always runs on a couple of minutes with some more worship and a prayer circle at the end. The format is constantly changing though, so if you turn up it might be nothing like that.
As time goes on and the, up to 20 strong group becomes more confident, the young people will organise more and more themselves. That is when it will really fly.
